Welded CNG Steel Cylinder Liners Adopted
Conformity between ISO & ECE 110 on Regulator Testing
Larger profile NGV-1 receptacle on the cards

In addition to the NGV industry’s milestone victory on 11 January 2007 with the approval of an ENGVA amendment to UN ECE Regulation 110 for the universal NGV fuel receptacle (200 bar/3000 psi – pounds per square inch) (see earlier NGV Global story), ENGVA reports that progress has been made on the adoption of welded steel CNG cylinder liners and conformity between ISO & ECE 110 on regulator testing.

Two other regulatory amendments to the ECE Regulation 110 were forwarded at 11 January 2007 GRPE meeting:

•  An amendment allowing welded steel CNG cylinder liners has been proposed by Germany and adopted. The amendment was forwarded on behalf of a German-based cylinder manufacturer and testing has been done by the German TÜV. The amendment would apply to fully wrapped cylinders.
•   An amendment by Italy provided conformity between ISO and the ECE 110 regulations to move to 50,000 cycle durability testing of natural gas regulators.

Both of these amendments will be taken up at the June meeting of the full WP 29 (World Harmonisation of Vehicle Regulations) where they are anticipated to be passed.

ENGVA also reports that a similar but larger profile of the NGV-1 fuelling receptacle for large trucks and buses will be considered as a future amendment to Regulation 110.
