The UK Natural Gas Vehicle Association (NGVA) has presented its
2005 award to The Hardstaff Group, based in Nottingham, for being
"exceptional pioneers in the commercial operation of natural gas
vehicles, true innovators of natural gas vehicle technology and for
their outstanding contribution to the industry through vehicle
development".
The Award was presented to Trevor Fletcher, Managing Director of The
Hardstaff Group at the prestigious IGEM/SBGI Gas Industry Awards Lunch
at the London Hilton Hotel.
The Hardstaff group have been operating natural gas heavy goods
vehicles (HGV's) for six years. In their current fleet of 120 vehicles
over thirty percent run on Natural gas.
In 2004 the Hardstaff group developed an 18 tonne rigid urban
distribution vehicle. The dedicated gas (CNG) vehicle powered by
Cummins Westport C+ Gas engine was designed specifically with the
medium sized goods vehicle in mind. The vehicle is exempt from London
congestion charging, meets Euro IV emission levels, has an extremely
high air quality status - emissions being low in NOx and near zero
particulates, and meets night time noise levels for vehicles operating
in quiet zones. A second development by the company is an umbilical
trailer system for fuel containment which increases the vehicle range,
in answer to the restricted refuelling infrastructure in the UK.
