The following report is provided by Business Region Göteborg AB via NGVA Europe.
Some 70 people from Europe, North America, and Asia participated in the 2nd Global Biogas Congress in Brussels from 28-29 October 2008. Most participants represented commercial enterprises engaged in the biogas field, but also included participants from energy and gas companies, waste handling companies (SITA, Veolia and others), the ethanol industry, banks, investement analysts and others. There were very few representatives from the political side. Emese Kottász from the Renewable Energy Policy Unit of the EU Commission was the exception. She declared that biogas is included among RES (Renewable Energy Sources) together with liquid biofuels. To qualify as a sustainable biofuel there are conditions demanding at least 50 % greenhouse gas reductions and the preservation of biological diversity.

Organised under the auspices of the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic
The development of road transport, associated with negative impacts on the environment, and rising oil prices have precipitated the need to focus on the use of alternative fuels. Compressed natural gas (CNG) holds an important position among them. Its economic and safety advantages, underpinned by its favourable influence on the environment, make CNG the most promising alternative fuel for motor vehicles.

Torino, Italy
Industry members have been kept busy during a week of events at the 2nd NGV World Fair, held in Torino, Italy this week. Three days of exhibitions, two days of conference proceedings, a technical tour as well as meetings of NGVA Europe and the IANGV left little time for sightseeing at the event. Organisers report that more than 1,000 visitors attended the exhibition on the first day which also included a free conference program featuring speakers on policy, product and programs. Fiat took center stage for the event, held at the Ligotto Fiere, next door to Fiat's postwar factory, which now serves as a shopping centre and hotel complex. The event proved an opportunity to highlight Fiat's dominance in the natural gas vehicle market, with 75% of market share in Italy and 60% of market share in Europe.

NGVAmerica’s National NGV Conference-Summit Omni Hotel - San Diego CA / October 4-5, 2008
Fleet operators and consumers scrambling for alternatives to ever-higher gasoline and diesel prices are finding that natural gas vehicles (NGV) are the right choice – right now! Low natural gas prices, a growing selection of vehicle choices, favorable tax incentives and increased national exposure for NGV successes are creating near-overwhelming demand. This year’s US National NGV Conference-Summit will tackle the tough questions – and seek your input - about the steps we must take to make the most of the NGV market momentum and put in place the mechanisms that generate sustained future growth.
