Earlier this month, the Dominican Republic’s President Leonel Fernandez inaugurated a natural gas plant, for gas compression and distribution, located at the Caucedo energy park. The almost USD 14 million venture was developed by Soluciones en Gas Natural S.A. (SGN), a part of the Lama Business Group, according to a DiarioLibre report. Amongst the first uses of the gas will be measures to benefit the natural gas vehicle industry.
SGN Vice President , Jose Yuan Lama Hache said, ”Besides the environmental benefits, the use of natural gas brings economic benefits for the user, since it’s cleaner burning keeps the vehicle’s engine cleaner, allowing longer engine life and the use of less fuel.”
NGVAmerica notes the firm (SGN) will initially operate with four CNG stations in Santo Domingo. In addition, they propose to extend the supply network through a strategic alliance with the company Isla, which has 210 refueling stations all over the country.
