Compac Kicks Off CNG Dispensing in Mozambique

December 16, 2007

Mozambique, Matola

Compressed natural gas dispenser manufacturer Compac has commissioned their first CNG dispenser in Mozambique, making it the only operational CNG dispenser in the country. Compac supplied one of their 15 kg/min models to Matola Gas Company (MGC) for bus filling in the Matola-Maputo area replacing another dispenser which had been damaged by fire. Mozambique is one of several countries in Africa currently making inroads into using natural gas as an alternative fuel.

Though Mozambique is a relatively late entrant into the natural gas
vehicle arena, the country is opting for the latest technology,
choosing dispensers with extended display functionalities. During
commissioning Josh Egbers, Compac’s Sales Engineer, set the dispenser
in Flow Rate Mode, allowing easy monitoring on the dispensers main
display of the current flow rate, as well as the maximum flow rate for
the delivery. This saw some impressed MGC representatives as sustained
flow rates in excess of 30kg/min were achieved, much higher than the
specified performance and generating significant savings in bus filling
times.

MGC have big plans to use the large natural gas resources in Mozambique
both in the transport and industrial sectors in the region to utilise
both environmental and foreign exchange benefits of the gas.
