CNG Powered Cement Agitators on the Road in Sydney

October 17, 2006

Australian building products giant Boral has taken delivery of five
compressed natural gas (CNG) powered concrete agitator trucks. The
trucks are believed to be a world first application of CNG to an
agitator vehicle, with chassis supplied by Iveco, using
Cummins-Westport engines and the CNG fit out provided by Advanced Fuels
Technology.

Boral has been a long time advocate for alternative fuels, trailing
CNG tip trucks in the past, and has called on other fleet operators to
embrace the technology and pressure OEMs to supply offer more choice of
vehicles. Company CEO, Rod Pearce, is quoted in the Australian press as
saying that fleet operators need to push hard and ‘challenge the
business model’ of vehicle makers to make alternatives to diesel more
readily available, "If the whole industry comes together we will have a
lot of leverage as a customer to get suppliers to make some changes."

Boral has a total of 100 cement mixers in the company fleet, making up about a quarter of the Australian total.
