Fleets and Fuels magazine is reporting strong interest in compressed natural gas (CNG) hybrid vehicles, with three separate projects covered this week. The reports include delivery to San Diego’s ISE of a Cummins Westport 5.9-liter B Gas Plus it’s using as it outfits a 40-foot CNG New Flyer bus with a hybrid electric drivetrain. Also covered is a report on the Denver Regional Transportation District use of Colorado’s UQM Technologies to supply 35-kilowatt generators and controllers drivetrains for upfits of 18 more 45-foot compressed natural gas-fueled series hybrid electric buses, bringing the total CNG hybrid fleet to 36 buses. Meanwhile on the east coast, KeySpan Energy Delivery is building a CNG fueled, series plug-in hybrid Ford F-750 rack truck, also using a Cummins Wesport engine and a FAB Industries fuel system.
