USA, Las Vegas
Alternative fuels supplier Clean Energy Fuels has been awarded the contract to supply compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel and provide operations and maintenance for two transit fueling stations in Las Vegas, Nevada, by the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada. The two stations currently fuel more than 50 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and paratransit vans serving the greater Las Vegas region. A total of 45 new CNG buses are on order for delivery in 2009. The RTC is both the transit authority and the transportation planning agency
for Southern Nevada.
With the addition of the new buses, fueling volume at the two stations
is expected to exceed 1.5 million gallons per year, beginning in 2009.
Andrew Littlefair, Clean Energy’s President and CEO, said: "Las Vegas
is an exceptional market for natural gas vehicles. Air quality is
compromised by diesel emissions and the expanding CNG bus fleet can
help improve the air quality measurably. The favorable cost
differential between natural gas and diesel fuels adds even more value
for the RTC and the community it serves."
