Clean Propulsion Buses Figure Prominently in North American Orders

35% of bus orders for natural gas or hybrids

In first quarter news for 2009, New Flyer Industries Inc., a manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses in Canada and the United States, has advised that just under 35% of new orders are for clean-propulsion (e.g., hybrid or natural gas) vehicles, which is a growing segment of New Flyer’s annual production. The segment also accounted for 76% of the company’s total backlog of orders. Some of the larger orders placed in the quarter include:

-   Golden Empire Transit District in Bakersfield, CA has ordered 27 40-foot CNG buses with options for 50 additional buses.
-   San Diego Metropolitan Transit System in San Diego, CA has exercised options to purchase 38 40-foot CNG buses.
