Chevrolet Sales Thailand has announced its plans to enter the
alternative fuel car market this year, by offering customers the option
of equipping their new Chevrolet Optra 1.6L (Sedan & Estate) with
compressed natural gas (CNG) equipment, or upgrading their current
Optra 1.6L with CNG equipment.  In conjunction with the
announcement, Chevrolet said it will guarantee the quality of these
fuel systems, and the vehicle warranties will not be affected, as long
as the installation is performed by an authorized and certified
Chevrolet technician.

William Botwick, President – General Motors Southeast Asia
Operations & Thailand, and Chevrolet Sales Thailand, said: “In
light of the sustained high price of oil, Chevrolet is introducing
bi-fuel system vehicles as a safe and practical alternative for Thai
customers. Currently, CNG is roughly one-third the cost of gasoline,
and this shift will also benefit the Thai economy by helping reduce
dependence on imported
oil.”

The Optra CNG Sedan and Estate equipped with the Bi-Fuel systems will
be able to use either gasoline or CNG, with the engine automatically
switching gasoline fuel source when CNG has been fully consumed.
Chevrolet will guarantee the quality of the CNG systems for 3 years [36
months] or up to 100,000 km from the date of its installation.

John Thomson, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales for
Chevrolet Sales Thailand, said: “We understand the economic factors
facing our customers due to the sustained high prices of oil, so we’re
providing the option of equipping their Chevrolet vehicles with Bi-Fuel
systems. In addition to the savings on fuel, our customers can be
assured of the safety of these systems. We’ve conducted extensive
testing in real life driving conditions – covering more than 200,000
km. over 20 continuous hours per day – without recording a single
defect.”
