- New name
- New structure
- New rules
- New leadership
Meetings of the International Association for Natural Gas Vehicles (IANGV) in Rome have resulted in several changes to the organisation, coming into effect commencing this week. The changes include the introduction of a ‘brand name’ for the organisation, the establishment of a Board of Directors, the establishment of a General Assembly, and significant amendments to the rules allowing for more flexibility with membership options. Members also voted on the appointment of a Chairman for the organisation, with the role going to Gabriele Gozzi, representing IANGV member NGV System Italia.
The brand name NGV Global is to be phased in over the coming weeks, accompanied by a new logo, with the existing news service of the same name to be renamed NGV Global News. Commenting on the changes, Executive Director, Brett Jarman said several factors contributed to the decision to introduce the brand name. “Neither the IANGV acronym nor the full name for the association are easy to communicate at times so we opted for something shorter and more succinct. As we now have several regional associations as well, meaning we are no longer the only international association, it didn’t make sense to continue with the name as it was.” Jarman says NGV Global was agreed as it encompasses the mandate of the association more fully.
Meanwhile the structural changes to the association are expected to provide more clearer distinction of responsibilities between the two key bodies of the association – the Board of Directors, which will focus on the governance of the association, and the General Assembly which will set strategic direction.
Other rule changes have been implemented removing restrictions on how industry members can join the association while at the same time incentivising membership of the regional and national associations around the world.
Incoming Chairman Gozzi said he was excited to be leading the association as the changes are being introduced. “The industry is expecting rapid growth in the next ten years so the association needs to present itself as a dynamic organisation, ready to respond to the industry’s needs. With the new structure in place we now have that.”
Outgoing President, Rich Kolodziej, who remains on the Board of Directors and an officer of the association, said the proudest achievement of his two year term was seeing the rule changes pass through a successful vote. “This has been an eighteen month process but the final result will lead to more stability and increased growth for the association.”
