Navistar's TranStar, manufactured by International Trucks, to be offered with ISL G engine
The Cummins Westport ISL G natural gas engine, manufactured by Cummins Westport Inc. (CWI), a major provider of high-performance, alternative fuel engines for the global market, will be offered by truck manufacturer Navistar in the International® TranStar and WorkStar trucks. The Cummins Westport ISL G, an 8.9 litre stoichiometric cooled-exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) engine, is certified to 2010 EPA emissions.

After a successful debut in 2011 VW has again presented a special edition VW Caddy for a limited two-month offer. Adopting the name of renowned German “Circus Roncalli” to promote its own circus star, the VW Caddy Roncalli Edition range includes the compressed natural gas (CNG) powered Caddy Roncalli BiFuel (petrol/CNG). Compared with the standard model the EcoFuel Roncalli is capable of 50% less fuel costs (under current conditions). VW is offering a very favourable price advantage of up to EUR 6268 (USD 8247) for the bi-fuel model only, cheaper than most of the diesel models on offer.

CNG-powered Kamaz vehicles on display
The municipality of Naberezhnye Chelny, located in the the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, recently hosted a conference on “CNG KAMAZ Vehicles”, which was initiated by OJSC KAMAZ – OOO RariTEK, the manufacturer. Participants learned of the many benefits of utilising natural gas fuelled vehicles. The municipality was able to report on its experience operating 8 combined street-sweeping dump trucks leased from Kamaz early 2011. The CNG fuelled ED-405AGs, based on KAMAZ-65115-30 chassis and operating to Euro IV standard, reduced operational costs by more than 2 million rubles (almost USD 66,000) over 8 months.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has issued an Executive Order (EO) on Greenkraft Inc’s 2012 dedicated compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel systems on General Motors 14,000 GVRW and above 6.0 8-cylinder engine. Greenkraft, Inc is a manufacturer of alternative fuel systems for use in transportation applications. In addition the GM engine can be installed in 14,000 trucks and above as a repower to run on CNG instead of diesel, which can help reduce the cost of fuel for fleet operators.

All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) delegation plays pivotal role
Following a long period of turmoil around natural gas supply for vehicle fuel and a string of incidents contentiously associated with compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel systems, a delegation of All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) has met with Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani about CNG load shedding, gas pricing and gas infrastructure development surcharge issues, reports Online. Discussion also covered a natural gas vehicle (NGV) safety check campaign.

Indonesia is gearing up to encourage private motorists to shift to natural gas vehicles (NGVs) with plans to add 110 new gas stations in Java at an estimated cost of Rp 4 trillion (USD 435 million), reports The Jakarta Globe. Deputy energy and mineral resources minister, Widjajono Partowidagdo, said the government is serious about developing gas-fuelled transportation. Jakarta has been earmarked for 19 of the new stations, with construction to commence in April.
Tata Motors Nano CNG Concept
As part of its commitment to alternative fuel technologies, India’s Tata Motors has demonstrated the compressed natural gas powered Tata Nano CNG Concept and the Tata Magic IRIS CNG at the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi. Tata says the Nano showcases the company’s capability to develop all kinds of vehicles for CNG applications. The sequential gas injection system has been calibrated with the EMS system for smart switching between CNG and gasoline fuel systems. The car comes with software with safety strategies like automatic cut-off CNG supply even in the case of diminutive leakages and automatic fuel quality checks.
Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat and Chrysler Group LLC, has stated in an interview at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, that Chrysler plans to begin selling natural gas-powered pickups in the U.S. this year, targeting fleet customers, reports Bloomberg. “We are going to bring them here, there is no doubt,” Marchionne reportedly said, adding that natural gas engines are the “best option”. Chrysler executives have said they plan to begin deliveries of vehicles using the technology to the U.S. by 2017.

Lohia Auto Industries, a division of Lohia Group of Companies, which has built its reputation around manufacturing of electric two wheelers, has captured attention at India’s Auto Expo 2012 with the launch of the Humsafar three-wheeler offered in a CNG variant, reports the Deccan Herald. This is Lohia Auto’s first foray into the commercial three-wheeler market. The one-tonne capacity Humsafar meets the Bharat Stage 3 emission standard and is claimed to achieve 36 km per litre. The Humsafar, which is includes a cargo version, is expected to hit the market in March.
