Beijing City and Petrochina Unite to Promote LNG for City Transport

Beijing Municipal People’s Government and Petrochina, part of state-owned oil and gas giant China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) have jointly signed a strategic agreement to promote the use of LNG in the city’s public transport sector, reports China News. Under the agreement CNPC will provide 100 LNG-powered public transport vehicles to get the project underway, with the first lot expected to be in operation before end of February. Petrochina will build a skid-mounted LNG filling stations along Chang’an Avenue, a major urban route across Beijing.

Ham Opens Two Natural Gas Fuelling Stations in Catalonia

Catalonia, a region in north-east Spain, is home to two new fuelling stations set up by Ham Group, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) distributor and transport company. Together with filling station proprietor Bionet, Ham has set up a new public access compressed (CNG) and liquefied natural gas station in Tarragona. In nearby Igualada, a soon to be opened a public UCG-Ham service station will supply CNG. Both stations also dispense other fuels. Ham now has six service stations operational, the others being at Abrera, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Sant Sadurní d’Anoia and Guadalajara.

Partnership Delivers CNG, LNG and Dollars for Education

Shovels ready for ground breaking of nopetro CNG/LNG station

Nopetro LLC, based in Tallahassee, Florida, is dedicated to developing a network of publicly accessible liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations throughout the US Southeast for heavy and medium duty vehicles. The groundwork for the first of those stations has taken place within a partnership between nopetro and Leon County School District (Tallahassee) which is switching its school bus fleet to CNG. The school signed an agreement for nopetro to build a natural gas fueling station for the district and share back royalties from private sales.

Texas Oilfield Services to be Delivered by LNG-Powered Transporters

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. has signed a 10-year agreement with Green Energy Oilfield Services, a major Texas truck transport provider, to build, supply, and maintain a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueling station at Green Energy headquarters in Fairfield, Texas. The LNG station will fuel Green Energy’s new fleet of 60 LNG-powered heavy-duty Peterbilt trucks, which will support Green Energy’s oil production customers within a 100-mile radius of Fairfield, in the Freestone oil region of Central Texas. The trucks are anticipated to use approximately 1.2 million gallons of LNG annually.

The Cummins Westport ISL G, an 8.9 litre stoichiometric cooled-exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) engine, is certified to 2010 EPA emissions.

Kawasaki Designed LNG Fuelled Containership Obtains DNV Approval in Principle

Kawasaki 9000 TEU Containership Design (LNG fuelled)

Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) has completed the development of a large, 9 000 TEU container ship fuelled by LNG and obtained Approval in Principle from DNV. The ship is designed with a new type of LNG tank that provides more space for container cargo. KHI obtained DNV Approval in Principle for both the gas supply system of the vessel and the LNG fuel tanks.

Design of LNG-Powered Containership Approved by Bureau Veritas

Fuel economies and lower emissions are the outcome of a new 14,000 TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered container ship design approved in-principle by  international vessel classification society Bureau Veritas. IFW reports the design was developed in a joint industry project between Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and French shipping line CMA CGN. Jean-Francois Segretain, Deputy Technical Director at Bureau Veritas, said “This is a real milestone as for the first time we have a fully worked and approved design for a main line ultra-large containership running on LNG.”

DNV to Undertake Flemish LNG Bunkering Feasibility Study

Det Norske Veritas AS (DNV) has won a contract with the Flemish government to undertake a feasibility study for the provision of liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering facilities at the ports of Antwerp, Zeebrugge and Ghent in Belgium. The work will consist of a market survey, a risk and safety analysis, and modeling of the logistics, legal and regulatory requirements needed to establish LNG bunkering infrastructure at the ports.

Grants Available to Develop Natural Gas Fueling Network in Texas

Powerful Tugboats Adopt LNG

Global power systems company Rolls-Royce, has signed a contract to deliver engines and propulsion systems for what is claimed to be the world’s first Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) powered tugs. The two vessels have been ordered by Norwegian company Buksér og Berging AS and will enter service in late 2013 for Statoil, the international energy company, and Gassco, the operator of the gas transportation network off the Norwegian coast.

Clean Energy Unveils Backbone Network for America’s Natural Gas Highway

The route plan for the first phase of 150 new LNG fueling stations for America’s Natural Gas Highway (ANGH) was unveiled on January 12, by Clean Energy Fuels Corp., provider of natural gas fuel for transportation in North America.  The company has identified 98 locations and anticipates having 70 stations open by the end of 2012 in 33 states.

ABS Selected to Classify First Dual-Fuelled LNG Vessels in USA

Two new dual-fueled liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered offshore supply vessels (OSVs) being constructed at Trinity Offshore LLC, for New orleans based Harvey Gulf International Marine, are to be classified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), reports Marine Log. These vessels will be among the first to be classed under the ABS Guide for Propulsion and Auxiliary Systems for Gas Fuelled Ships (May 2011). Kirsi Tikka, ABS Chief Engineer, is reported as saying that “This is likely to be the beginning of a trend for OSVs in the region,”, adding that “nearly three-quarters of LNG carriers on order today will be built with dual-fuel capabilities and ABS will be classing almost half of them.”

LNG-Fuelled Chemical Tanker a First for Europe’s Inland Waterways

The MT Argonon, said to be the world’s first new LNG-fuelled tanker, has been delivered in Rotterdam to Lloyd’s Register class, heralding the start of a new era of cleaner shipping for Europe’s local waterways. The 6,100-dwt dual-fuelled chemical tanker represents a significant milestone for the Deen Shipping subsidiary, Argonon Shipping B.V., in its pursuit of cleaner transport solutions for Europe. Lloyd’s Register helped the owners and regulators to identify their risks, meet regulatory requirements and overcome the technical challenges for the precedent-setting tanker.
