British Columbia’s Ministry of Energy and Mines has instituted a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction regulation that will help to diversify and increase the market for natural gas in British Columbia’s transportation sector as well as deliver on its Natural Gas Strategy.
Announced by the Minister of Energy and Mines Rich Coleman, this regulation allows utility companies to deliver natural gas transportation programs, including the opportunities to:
- Offer incentives to transportation fleets that would use natural gas, such as buses, trucks or ferries.
- Build, own and operate compressed natural gas fuelling stations or liquefied natural gas fuelling stations.
- Provide training and upgrades to maintenance facilities to safely maintain natural gas-powered vehicles.

US President Barack Obama has released his Budget Request for the Fiscal Year starting on October 1, 2012 (FY 2013). U.S. Senator Bob Casey has unveiled legislation to speed the transition to natural gas as a vehicle fuel to create jobs and sustain much needed economic growth in the US State of Pennsylvania and reduce dependence on foreign oil. “Pennsylvania’s natural gas reserves offer great potential for jobs and economic progress for the region,” said Senator Casey. 


The Arkansas Energy Office (AEO), a division of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC), hasd decided to extend the acceptance period for the Compressed Natural Gas Conversion Rebate Program reservation requests through January 31, 2012, extended from December 31. In addition to the reservation deadline, the date to complete the actual conversion or purchase has been moved to April 30, 2012. There is currently approximately $1.3 million available in the program for rebates.
In Canada’s capital city of Ottawa, industry and government representatives met December 9 to launch the implementation of a roadmap that will guide market development for natural gas as a transportation fuel in Canada. Facilitated by Natural Resources Canada, the kick-off meeting included representatives of Canada’s trucking, oil and gas, manufacturing, and transportation industries.
