World CNG, a company specializing in alternative fuel packaging and applications, has partnered with NatGasCar LLC, a Cleveland-based natural gas vehicle conversion systems developer, to immediately begin production on the 2011-2012 Dodge Caravan CNG. Available in both dedicated and bi-fuel models, the Dodge Caravan CNG offers fifth passenger capability and generous cargo space.

BAF Earns CARB Certification for 2012 CNG Ford Vans and Pickups

Ford F-Series 250 Colorado Pickup

BAF, a wholly owned subsidiary of Clean Energy Fuels Corp., has received CARB (California Air Resources Board) Executive Orders (EO) for its CNG-powered 2012 Ford F-Series 250/350 pickups and E-Series 250/350 vans. The CARB EOs allow the vehicles to be sold and operated in California, the state with the most stringent emissions control rules, effective immediately, as well as in sixteen other states that follow CARB rules. In effect, the CNG-fuelled Ford F-Series 250/350 pickups and E-Series 250/350 vans will now be available in all 50 states.

Ford F-250 CNG Bi-Fuel to Debut at Moab Off-Road Safari

Venchurs Vehicle Systems (VVS), which offers both compressed natural gas (CNG) conversions for Ford and off road products/specialty vehicle builds through its VWerks division, will combine the two worlds at the upcoming Moab Easter Jeep Safari, showcasing the performance capabilities of both programs. According to PT Muldoon, VP of Engineering for VVS, CNG is currently focused towards the fleet industry and Moab brings about an opportunity to introduce CNG to a new market of dedicated off-road enthusiasts.

GM Unveils 2013 GMC and Chevrolet Bi-Fuel Pickup Details

GM's 2013 bi-fuel Chevrolet Silverado HD includes a CNG-capable engine

Earlier this month Chevrolet and GMC provided details of General Motors’ full-size bi-fuel models — the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 HD extended cab pickup trucks. The vehicles include a compressed natural gas (CNG) capable Vortec 6.0L V8 engine that seamlessly transitions between CNG and gasoline fuel systems. Combined, the trucks offer a range of more than 650 miles (1,000+ kms). The Silverado and Sierra will be available in standard and long box, with either two- or four-wheel drive. The gaseous option will be available in late 2012.

Volvo Trucks North America Adds Natural Gas 12 Litre VNL Daycab

Volvo Trucks North America, part of the Volvo Group, will add the Volvo VNL daycab to its range of heavy duty natural gas powered trucks. The Volvo VNL daycab offers customers a larger – 123-inch bumper-to-back-of-cab (BBC) and is rated up to 80,000 GCWR – and more robust spec than the natural-gas powered Volvo VNM daycab. Introduced in 2011, the VNM daycab features a 113-inch BBC and is rated up to 66,000 lbs. GCWR.

Kenworth to Harness Cummins Westport ISX12 G Natural Gas Power

The Kenworth T660 will be available with CNG/LNG 12 litre engine from 2013.

Kenworth Truck Company is expanding its line of green products by offering the Cummins Westport ISX12 G heavy duty natural gas engine for use in regional haul, vocational and refuse markets. This new engine, available early 2013, requires a single fuel source and can run on either compressed (CNG) or liquefied (LNG) natural gas, both of which are cost effective, low carbon, and low emissions fuels. The natural gas engine uses a maintenance-free, three-way catalyst and does not require a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) tank, diesel particulate filter (DPF) or selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology.

Cummins Commences Development of 15L On-Highway Natural Gas Engine

Cummins Inc. has commenced development of a 15-liter heavy-duty, spark-ignited natural gas engine to meet demand for cleaner and cheaper on-highway applications. As natural gas production grows in North America and the fuel becomes more readily available, Cummins believes that there is a strong market for engines powered by an alternative to diesel fuel. The Cummins ISX15 G is expected to be in limited production by 2014.

Navistar’s New International Loadstar Work-Truck Includes Natural Gas Version

Navistar International Corporation, producer of International brand commercial and military trucks, has unveiled the International LoadStar, a severe service low cab forward work truck, at the Mid-America Trucking Showing in Louisville, Kentucky. Designed from the ground up with input from drivers and fleet managers, the LoadStar was built to serve customer needs in the waste, concrete pumping and airplane refueling markets among others. Navistar will have an optional natural gas version, using the Cummins Westport ISL-G compressed natural gas engine, available in early 2013.

Chrysler’s Ram Truck Available with CNG by Mid-2012

Chrysler Canada, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chrysler Group LLC and producer of the Ram truck, has confirmed its intentions to manufacture a factory-built compressed natural gas-powered (CNG) truck, with first vehicles expected to be delivered in July this year. The Ram 2500 Heavy Duty CNG pickup is designed for fleet and commercial customers and offers cost and emissions benefits. Using CNG the engine delivers the same power, performance, and capability of a conventional Ram truck.

Toyota Concept Hints at CNG Future

Toyota Motors has unveiled a concept vehicle at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the FT-Bh Concept, which may be developed for several fuel applications including compressed natural gas, reports Insideline. Designed for affordability, fuel efficiency and suited to various alternative-fuel powertrains, “It serves as a study for how even greater fuel efficiency might be achieved in the medium term by using two alternative powertrains,” said Toyota in a statement. “A compressed natural gas hybrid with 38g/km CO2 emissions and a plug-in hybrid, emitting just 19g/km.”

Kia Promotes CNG at Geneva

While the 82nd International Motor Show in Geneva has several natural gas vehicles on display, it was the head of powertrain engineering at Kia, Dr Joachim Hahn, who captured attention of auto press representatives by calling for greater acknowledgement of the benefits of powering cars with compressed natural gas (CNG), reports Autocar. Hahn reportedly told Autocar:  “With all the work we do on internal combustion engines and hydrogen-powered cars, making big gains in CO2 reduction is either incredibly difficult or incredibly expensive. That’s why I see big potential in CNG. It can offer a 20 per cent CO2 reduction just like that – what other technology can give you that?

ArqBravo Seeks Status as Argentine OEM for CNG Small Car

In Argentina, a small automotive company is planning to become the first in-country OEM to manufacture a small compressed natural gas (CNG) powered vehicle. The project is led by the architect Manuel Bravo, an Argentine entrepreneur who is the head of the ArqBravo group of companies. One of the flagship projects of the company is the development of a low cost popular car, initially called A!PA (Auto Popular Argentino or Argentine Popular Car). A dedicated CNG version is being designed primarily for taxis and light load transport. The CNG engine will be manufactured by the Company, using existing parts from other OEMs.
