Quantum Releases New Type IV Cylinder for HD Applications

Quantum's type IV extended-range CNG cylinder

Californian company Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide Inc. has increased options for heavy-duty trucks running on compressed natural gas with the introduction of a high-pressure CNG Type IV cylinder which is capable of storing 41 DGE (diesel gallon equivalent), or 82 DGE in the standard two-cylinder configuration.

Italian Cooperation Agreement Brings Certification to CNG Installation and Repair Workshops

Dynetek Announces Indian JV with S.V. Energy

Canada’s Dynetek Industries Ltd, a manufacturer of fuel storage systems for CNG and hydrogen, has executed a letter of intent to form Dynetek Cylinders India Pvt. Ltd. (DNK India), an Indian joint venture (JV) to be 49% owned by Dynetek and 51% owned by S.V. Energy, an Indian partnership. Formalization of agreements for the JV are expected to be completed by November 30, 2010.

Ragasco Emerges Strong from Rebuilding Program

Cylinders roll off production line at rate of 6,000 units per day

New major contract with Daimler AG

Hexagon Composites ASA’s wholly owned subsidiary, Ragasco AS, has successfully completed rebuilding of its fully automated manufacturing plant, with production of gas containers increasing from 4,500 to 6,000 units a day. Production at the factory plant was halted in mid-December for a major rebuilding, completed in late January.

Dynetek and Sejung Form Company for Lightweight Cylinders in Sth Korea

Dynetek Industries Ltd, a producer of lightweight fuel storage systems, has announced the formation of Dynetek Korea Co. Ltd. (DNK Korea), a Korean joint venture 51% owned by Sejung Co. Ltd (Sejung) of Seoul, Korea and 49% owned by Dynetek. To be executed in three phases, the joint venture aims to maximize Dynatek’s penetration of the Korean market for lightweight compressed natural gas and hydrogen fuel storage cylinders and systems. Mr. Douglas Pigot, Executive Chairman of the Board of Dynetek commented, “The joint venture represents a material advancement to further penetrate this important market for lightweight cylinders and systems. We look forward to working with Sejung to develop this strategic and valuable relationship.”

Iranian Defense Ministry Produces CNG Cylinders

The Iranian Ministry of Defence has set up a new compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinder production plant with production capacity of 100,000 units per annum, according to a Tehran Times report. The factory will supply the domestic market with CNG cylinders of 28 to 130 liters capacity ranging from 168 to 425 millimeters in diameter, IRNA news agency quoted Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi as stating in the inaugural ceremony. An industry source from Iran said the Ministry will deliver product to ECER110 and ISO 11439 specifications. Production of goods and services for the domestic market by the military is reportedly a common occurrence in Iran due to the extensive resources and manpower available to them.

CNG is NOT for LPG Systems – Safety Bulletin

Death Trap - an illegal CNG to LPG adapter

Recent incidents in Sweden have prompted the IANGV to issue a reminder to motorists that compressed natural gas (CNG) is not suitable for cars fitted with LPG (liquefied petroleum gas or propane) systems. As LPG systems are not designed to cope with the pressure of CNG systems, components and cylinders have been known to burst with drastic consequences. Despite strict standards being enforced worldwide for CNG dispensing systems, motorists have circumvented the system using dangerous, illegally manufactured adaptors. Motivated to save a few dollars on fuel, many motorists have paid a higher price through injury and even death.

Lincoln Composites Obtains Initial Order for TITAN™ Modules

Lincoln Composites, US-based subsidiary of Norway’s Hexagon Composites ASA, has received a purchase order for two TITAN™ modules for the storage and transportation of compressed natural gas (CNG) in the Dominican Republic. In placing this order, Linea Clave will become the first to operate a TITAN™ bulk gas hauling system in the Western Hemisphere. The modules will be used to deliver natural gas to the Consorcio Energetico Punta Cana-Macao (CEPM) power generation station in the eastern part of the Dominican Republic.

SGS Accredited as Spain’s First Authorized Inspection Company for CNG Cylinders

Global inspection, verification, testing and certification company SGS SA is the first inspection company in Spain to obtain authorization to conduct visual inspections of cylinders for compressed natural gas vehicles from the Departamento de Innovación, Universidades y Empresas de la Generalitat de Cataluña. The authorization comes at a time when natural gas transportation is experiencing rapid growth around the world.

Bolivia to Test Imported Chinese CNG 4500cc Engines

Bolivia’s National Hydrocarbon Agency (ANH) has given the green light for commencement of its CNG conversion program in Cochabamba. Conversions, due to commence in about two weeks, will include replacing aged CNG cylinders that have been in service since Bolivia first moved to natural gas vehicles approximately 15 years ago, with new CNG cylinders on about 14,000 vehicles. In Santa Cruz, immediate emphasis is on converting diesel buses, for which the government has plans to endorse the purchase of 6,000 Chinese motors.

Lincoln Composites Completes Testing of Bulk Haulage CNG Vessel

Testing Completed on Titan Tank and Four-Tank Transportation Module

Lincoln Composites, a US subsidiary of Norwegian based Hexagon Composites ASA says its water volume, all-composite TITAN tank and ISO frame has obtained final approval from American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). Some of the highlights of the testing performance of the TITAN™ tank include:

•  An average hydrostatic burst pressure of 717 bar (10399 psi)
•  Completed 45 000 pressure cycles from 20 bar to 375 bar (290 psi  to 5440 psi)
•  Completed 5 000 cycles from atmospheric pressure to 250 bar (3626 psi) at temperatures between 60 and 70 degrees Celsius (140 and 158 degrees F) as well as 5 000 cycles between -50 and -60 degree Celsius (-58 and -76 degrees F)

EKC Expects NG Cylinder Sales in China by October

Everest Kanto Cylinder (EKC), developer & producer of industrial & CNG Cylinders, is poised to respond to the growing OEM automobile market in China and expects to begin selling by October, its chief financial officer J Sivakumar said in a report by DNA India. EKC’s China plant reportedly has capacity to make 200,000 CNG cylinders and an initial capacity to manufacture 3,000 jumbo cylinders per annum (cpa). Jumbo cylinders are used for storage and transportation purposes. The company currently exports from its Chinese plant to India and Middle East.
