Foton America Signs Class 3 Truck Distributors. Bus Plans Progressing
Foton America, the US agent for Chinese sourced compressed natural gas (CNG) Foton trucks and buses, has signed arrangements with alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) distributor, Venta Inc. for the distribution of Class 3 trucks for the US market. Venta has announced subsequent retail agreements with EVCARVO, a retailer of AFVs across the US. The trucks are to be made available with engines from Foton’s engine manufacturing arm, Foton Lovol. EPA testing is scheduled to end in late May prior to certification being granted. Foton America vice president, Jared Schnader told NGV Global plans to introduce Foton buses to the US market are also progressing, with a test bus currently under preparation for EPA testing.
GAIL and Eden Unite for Hydrogen-Enriched Natural Gas Bus Trial
India’s natural gas distributor GAIL (India) Ltd is to join with an Australian firm Eden Energy Ltd (Eden) in what could be the largest trial of a hydrogen-enriched blend of natural gas (HCNG) for transport. Descibing the trial as commercial in scale, Eden says the project is designed to reduce pollution levels fromIndia’s massive public transport bus fleets. The trial is expected to see between 50-70 buses on the streets of Mumbai, a city of some 16 million people, by the end of this year.

Landmark Siberian CBM Project Launched, Complete With NGVs
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has authorized the launch of the first post-Soviet Russia coal bed methane (CBM) production and utilization project, on February 12th. Taking advantage of the spotlight, project partners Gazprom and Kemerovo Region Administration organised an NGV conference and exhibition for the same day, displaying light, medium, and heavy duty vehicles — both OEM and converted — that use natural gas instead of gasoline and diesel. Invited to the conference were regional and local politicians, fleet managers and auto manufacturers.

IGL Orders Over 220 Dispensers from Compac Industries
Compac Industries Ltd of New Zealand, a designer and manufacturer of CNG dispensers, has received an order from Indian customer Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), for 144 car dispensers and 82 bus dispensers. The order follows an initial order from IGL in May 2009. Compac says this second order will be delivered to India in lots over a 6 month period, from April through to September this year, for installation in some of the many new CNG stations currently being built in New Delhi, as well as several other areas surrounding the city.

Melchers-Singapore to Deliver 1000 CNG Taxi Conversions
Trans-Cab aims for 3000 CNG taxis by mid-2011
C. Melchers GmbH Singapore branch is to provide Trans-Cab Services Pte Ltd with 1,000 Italian-made OMVL kits and German-made Xperion Cylinders for the conversion of their new Toyota Wish 2.0 litre vehicles to CNG bi-fuel taxis. The cylinders are delivered in two sizes (90 liter and 39 liter cylinders) which are both installed in the vehicle. The two Type IV cylinders carry approximately 22 kg of gas, providing an average mileage of 280 km.

Great Eastern and Bharat Petroleum Agree to Establish New CNG Stations
India’s Great Eastern Energy, a coal bed methane producer and developer, has signed a franchise agreement with retail distributor Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) to establish compressed natural gas fuelling stations at BPCL retail outlets in the cities in and around the Asansol – Durgapur region. An IBTimes report says the initial term of the agreement is five years and is subject to further renewal.

Landi Renzo Enters US CNG Conversions Market – Forms Subsidiary
Two years ago, Stefano Landi, Vice President of Italian entity Landi Renzo S.p.A., acknowledged in an interview reported by Italtrade that his company was keeping an eye on the “potential business developments” in the area of alternative fuels in the USA. Recent US policy and investment incentives and the increasing receptivity to natural gas as a vehicle fuel have clearly stimulated the international automotive CNG and LPG fuel systems company to go to the next step, with its California-based subsidiary Landi Renzo USA Corporation now commencing operational activities. The new company is headed by Mr Andrea Landi, son of Stefano Landi.
Rio’s NGV Numbers Set to Escalate in 2010
CEG Rio, part of the Gas Natural Group, has forecast growth of 7% of net sales of CNG in 2010, based on improved price differentials between petrol, alcohol and CNG. In Rio de Janiero, the number of conversions to natural gas increased from 2,300 per month in the first half of 2009 to 5400 in November. CNG-powered vehicles reached 7.8% of total vehicles in the state, a total of 740 thousand cars, according to CEG. With the expectation that CNG numbers will continue to escalate through 2010, the company will invest further in its public information campaign commenced in 2009, demonstrating the financial efficacy of investing in a conversion kit, for which it has provided an online tool to assist with calculations.
