
GE's LM2500 dual-fuel turbine
Participants at the forthcoming LNG-Fueled Marine Seminar in Houston, Texas, will have the opportunity to visit GE Energy Division’s East Houston turbine facility, where they will be able to see the LM2500 dual-fuel system and learn of the latest advancements in efforts to fuel more ships with liquefied natural gas (LNG). The water-jet system is being manufactured for the 100-meter Buquebus catamaran, under construction by Australian shipbuilder Incat. The LNG-powered ferry will transport up to 1,000 passengers between Buenos Aires, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay, at speeds up to 50 knots (57.5 miles per hour).

More than 180 delegates from 27 countries converged on Prague, Czech Republic, for a busy week of NGV and gas industry conference proceedings and meetings. The focus for the week was the 5th Annual Conference on CNG, hosted by the Czech Gas Association. Held over a day and a half on the 20th and 21st of February, the conference explored prospects for the development and use of CNG in transport. In an opening address, the Czech Deputy Minister for the Environment, Mr Ivo Hlavac, said his Ministry was keen to see increased use of natural gas vehicles in industrial areas of the country to combat pollution.

United States Secretary of Energy Dr. Steven Chu will give the opening Keynote Address at the 2012 Green Truck Summit on Monday, March 5. The event is considered the leading educational forum on “green” technology and initiatives for the commercial truck industry in North America. Jointly produced by the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) and CALSTART, an advanced technologies consortium based in California, the Summit program has 29 educational sessions including the following sessions specifically addressing natural gas vehicles:
USA-based Kenworth Truck Company hosted a truck show in Indianapolis featuring compressed natural gas (CNG) powered and hybrid Kenworths at the start of December. The company’s dedication to provision of green fleet choices includes compressed and liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks. More than 350 truck and fleet operators learned about new available equipment and the future of natural gas fuel in the trucking industry. Also presented were free training sessions on vehicle maintenance and grant writing.
