British Columbia-based IMW Industries was recently named BC Export Award’s 2009 Exporter of the Year, rising to the fore despite challenging global economic conditions. IMW’s clean technology expertise and ongoing success in the global CNG marketplace has earned it top recognition among its peers. It’s success comes mainly from the supply of CNG systems to fuelling station operators and commercial fleets across more than 25 countries worldwide. In April this year, they signed an agreement with China Gas to build 120 large-scale CNG stations, using their specialized non-lubricated compressor systems.

“…the future will belong to gas powered cars…” (Manfred Stohl – former Group N World Rally Champion)

Austria’s OMV CNG Rally team is all smiles having closed off the 2009 Austrian Rally Championship in 2nd position overall, sealing the Vice-Champion position with a fourth place in the season closer, the Waldviertel Rally. This season was the first for OMV competing in the Division 1 class, having dominated the Alternative Fuel class since first entering the competition in 2006. The decision to switch to Division 1 was made just weeks before the beginning of this year’s season, along with the decision to switch to a converted Subaru Impreza instead of the Mitsubishi Evos used in previous seasons. The team again used biomethane for the full series supplied by OMV from its plant in Bruck (west of Vienna).

A ceremonial drummer welcomes ANGVA 2009 Green Highway participants to Chuncheon City

South Korea’s Chuncheon City has had a small taste of natural gas vehicle fever ahead of the city’s hosting of the IANGV NGV 2012 Conference and Exhibition. The city was host last month to the commencement of the final leg of the ANGVA Green Highway rally, en route to Donghae for the ANGVA 2009 Conference and Exhibition. Though a relative newcomer to the natural gas vehicle scene, Chuncheon has embraced the concept since first winning their early bid to host NGV 2012 back in 2006. In the subsequent period the city has seen the installation of two compressed natural gas (CNG) filling stations and more than 200 CNG vehicles operating on the city’s roads.

Natural gas industry stands at the threshold of an energy revolution

Korea’s national vision of ‘Low Carbon, Green Growth’ and associated countermeasures against the ongoing climate, environmental and resource crisis, has been clearly expressed on the opening days of the ANGVA 2009 Conference and Exhibition. The venue, the proud City of Donghae, is alive with fluttering flags and beds of flowers, smiling faces and other signs of welcome – all conveying the generous hospitality that has greeted dignataries, delegates and visitors to the conference and exhibition.

This is also the time when low carbon, green growth policy is needed,” Environment Minister Lee Maan-ee said at the opening ceremony, which was also included addresses by ANGVA President, Dr Chitrapongse Kwangsukstith.

Keynote addresses have been presented by Rich Kolodziej (President, IANGV), Kazunobu Onogawa ((Director, UNCRD), Kang-Soo Choo (CEO, Kogas) and Jong-Soo Yoon (General Manager, GE). Each pointed to the growing capacity, development and opportunity for natural gas powered transportation.
