US-registered China Natural Gas, Inc. (CHNG) is a provider of compressed natural gas (CNG) for vehicular fuel in Xi’an, China. The city of Xi’an has approximately 20,000 taxis, 5,000 buses and 3,000 special purpose vehicles that are powered by compressed natural gas. Profitable CHNG business segments include retail natural gas at company-owned natural gas fueling stations and conversion of gasoline-fueled vehicles to hybrid (natural gas/gasoline) powered vehicles.

Ashok Leyland Acquires 75% Optare for Global Bus Strategy
Indian bus manufacturer Ashok Leyland, the Hinduja Group flagship in India, together with its associate companies, will increase its stake in the British bus maker, Optare Group Ltd, to 75.1% (subject to approval by the shareholders of Optare plc). The Company had initially acquired 26% stake in Optare in July 2010 as part of a long-term strategic partnership. This move fully integrates Optare into Ashok Leyland’s global strategy for buses. Like Ashok Leyland, Optare produces alt-fuel buses as part of its range, including those powered by natural gas.

Alberta JV Capitalises on Growing Demand for CNG in Transportation
London, UK-based LL Renaissance Limited, a company committed to the exploration and development of natural gas reserves across western North America, has entered into a joint venture agreement with Paradise Ridge Hydrocarbons Ltd of Calgary, Alberta, for the development of compressed natural gas production and distribution in Southern Alberta, Canada. LL Renaissance`s President commented, “The low priced natural gas situation is a perfect storm opportunity to capitalize on the growing demand for compressed natural gas (CNG) in transportation vehicles, commercial and personal, in major urban centers. In the Philippines agreement has been reached between the government and the Malampaya consortium over the supply of compressed natural gas (CNG) for a fleet of up to 200 buses, reports The Manila Times. The consortium members include Shell Philippines Exploration B.V., Chevron Malampaya and Philippine National Oil Co. – Exploration Corp (PNOC-EC). The agreement, to run until 2018, will reportedly be signed November 3, says Omar Castillo, Philippine National Oil Co. Exploration Corp. vice president.
