
Solaris Urbino 12 CNG
European bus manufacturer Solaris Bus and Coach SA, located in Owińska, Poland, has been selected by the city of Kaunas, Lithuania’s second-largest city, to supply 24 Solaris Urbino 12 CNG (compressed natural gas) buses. These standard-length low-floor city buses will enter service for municipal operator Kauno Autobusai by the end of April 2012. The buses were chosen for their environmentally friendly performance and their ability to operate on biomethane.

Water management company Aqualia Gestion Integral del Agua SA of Madrid (Aqualia) has announced plans to launch a commercial-scale demonstration scheme with European partners, using waste water to farm algae and harvest biomethane and biodiesel for use a transportation fuel.
A new website describes the activities of GreenGasGrids, a 3-year European project funded by the Intelligent Energy for Europe (IEE) programme with the aim to boost the European biomethane market. The project will run until mid 2014 and is co-ordinated by the German Energy Agency dena. The project’s consortium consists of 13 European partners, including national energy agencies, scientific institutions as well as industry associations involved in biomethane, natural gas, and renewable energy. 
Methane extracted from sugarcane residue and converted into bio-CNG (biomethane or renewable natural gas) is available in India but is not recognised as a vehicle fuel by India’s Ministry for Road Transport and Highways. Now the Ministry is considering a proposal seeking permission to conduct tests on commercial vehicles running on the sugarcane-derived energy source, reports 

Cornerstone Environmental Group, LLC, an environment-focused engineering consultancy, is part of a team that received a 2011 Project of the Year Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the Rodefeld Landfill BioCNG Vehicle Fuel Project as part of the Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP). The award was presented during the 15th Annual LMOP Partner and Project of the Year Awards Ceremony on January 18, 2012, in Baltimore, MD. The project partners include the Dane County Solid Waste Department, Cornerstone Environmental Group, ANGI Energy Systems, Unison Solutions LLC, and Madison Area Technical College.
