Environmentally focused trash hauler MarBorg Industries, from Santa Barbara, California is spending about $1 million on a new compressed natural gas fueling station, which will power 16 of the company’s garbage trucks, reports The Daily Sound. Purchasing its first CNG truck in February 2008, the fleet will have grown to 16 trucks by November this year.

The company reportedly intends to eventually convert the entire fleet of collection vehicles to CNG.

The trucks are refuelled at night, which makes use of off-peak electricity rates, and are filled automatically between 11:15 p.m. and 3:30 a.m.
