Brazilian NGV Industry Launches Local Newsletter

April 15, 2005

ImageBrazil, Rio de Janiero

The IBP-Brazilian Petroleum and Gas
Institute GNV Committee has launched a local industry newsletter,
including an international English language edition available via email.

 The newsletter is available quarterly with the first issue including reports on:

-    A 47% increase on vehicle conversions in February compared to the
same month last year. Total conversions are believed to have exceeded
25,000 for the month. Total NGV numbers in Brazil now exceed 877,000
with the million vehicle milestone expected to be exceeded by the end
of the year. CNG refueling stations now exceed 1,000.

Heavy vehicle NGV take up rates are expected to increase following
recent agreements to hold natural gas price levels at 55% of the diesel
price. 33% of urban buses in Brazil are expected to operate on CNG by
the end of 2006.

-    Fiat of Brazil is to produce ‘tetra-fuel’ vehicles by the end of
this year. More than 300,000 ‘flex-fuel’ vehicles, which can cater for
gasoline and ethanol in any proportion, have been sold in Brazil
prompting interest for vehicles which can also operate on natural gas
or naptha (pure gasoline).

-    Preparations are well under way for Expo GNV 2005 to take place in Rio de Janiero, October 27-29.

-    Working Groups have agreed on the use of refueling adaptors to
allow vehicles to travel along an international ‘Blue Corridor’ through
Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay.

-    IBP is to conduct an NGV Course in Rio de Janiero from May 9-12
covering: natural gas production; transportation and distribution;
environmental regulations; safety and quality of NGVs; supply;
conversion technology; and marketing.
