Site provides tool for calculating return on investment for CNG Conversion Kit

Brazilian Company Distribuidora de Gas do Rio de Janeiro – CEG and CEG RIO – has launched a smart campaign that aims to stimulate the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) in vehicles. In its press release the company says the initiative – which is being developed in partnership with industry manufacturers, unions, distributors, and vehicle conversion businesses – is expected to increase use of CNG by 10% to 15% in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The campaign provides a website www.usegnv.com.br where vehicle owners and drivers can access a simulator to work out consumption and savings, comparing CNG with gasoline and alcohol fuels.

Amongst a number of useful information services, including access to news and responses to questions, the site also tells how much time will be needed to recoup the investment of cost to install a CNG kit.

The initiative arises from a survey conducted in May 2009. Of the 280 drivers interviewed, 34% were informed users of CNG and could compare fuel costs. 112 identified themselves as non-users of CNG, 12% of which already had a gas kit installed in their car but were unable to identify the benefit of the product.

The partners of the campaign are: CEG, CEG Rio, Gas Natural Sao Paulo Sul, White Martins, Ipiranga, Forza Group, Aspro, Neogás, Agira, Junqueira Compressors, SINDCOMB (The Retail Fuel and Lubricants Union) and SINDIREPA (Union of Industry in Repair of Vehicles and Accessories of the State of Rio de Janeiro) and approximately 100 fuelling stations and 20 converter companies distributed in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
