Boston To Get CNG Trolleys

August 8, 2007

USA, Massachussets

Using a DOE awarded of $100,000, CityView Trolley Tours, a Boston-based company, will be acquiring the company’s first two CNG trolleys.  The award was made through DOE’s Clean Cities program and administered by the Massachusetts Division of Energy Resources (MA DOER).   KeySpan Energy submitted the grant on behalf of CityView last year.  In addition to submitting the grant application, KeySpan provided technical support during the ordering and delivery of the two CNG trolleys.

“We are thrilled about receiving this grant and look forward to our continued partnership with KeySpan,” said Michael Thomas, owner of CityView Trolleys.  “Drivers, tourists, and pedestrians will all benefit from cleaner air as these new CNG trolleys are placed into service in the summer of 2007.”  CityView’s CNG trolleys will meet EPA’s stringent 2010 particulate matter emission standards.  In addition to ultra-low emissions, the CityView Trolleys will be approximately 50 percent quieter than their diesel trolley counterparts.  The trolleys are built on a Freightliner MB-55 chassis, with Dynetek CNG cylinders, and Cummins-Westport 5.9L CNG engines.  The trolleys were completed at Molly Trolley in Ogunquit, Maine before being driven to Boston.
