Warsaw Public Transport Adds 80 CNG Buses for 2019

| Poland: Warsaw

MAN bus tender for WarsawMAN Truck and Bus submitted the most advantageous bid in the tender for the supply of 80 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for Zarząd Transportu Miejskiego m.st. (ZTM — Warsaw Public Transport Authority). The tender called for 50 articulated buses and 30 single 12 metre buses for the city’s public transportation.

All buses will be fully low-floor and equipped with air conditioning, monitoring, electronic passenger information and a recuperation system, i.e. energy recovery during braking. MAN Bus & Truck Polska Sp. z o. o. proposed for the delivery of vehicles a price of PLN 132.3 million (USD 38.13 million). First deliveries will take place in the first half of 2019, after March.

In support with this development, ZTM has also launched a tender calling for a ten-year supply of CNG fuel together with the necessary CNG refueling infrastructure.

It is the biggest single investment in low emission buses thus far for ZTM, which already includes in its fleet 35 Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) buses. By the end of 2020 ZTM will be have a fleet of nearly 300 low-emission or zero-emission vehicles – gas, electric and hybrid.

Furthermore, Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe Sp. z o. o. (MZA), a transport company serving Warsaw and surrounds at the request of ZTM, has reportedly also raised a tender for 50 CNG articulated buses, for which a MAN Truck and Bus model is again the likely selection.
