Toyota Thailand’s bi-fuel Hilux Vigo pick-up

Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd. has followed the introduction of its new Hilux Vigo Champ range to the market in July 2011 with a compressed natural gas (CNG) variant this year. The new Vigo, which hits the company’s 340 showrooms  nationwide this week, is factory-fitted for bi-fuel operation (CNG/petrol) and is supported by standard Toyota warranty conditions.

The Hilux pick-up truck is powered by a 2TR-FE 2.7 litre (2694cc) four-cylinder engine with VVT-i, which generates up to 118 kW (160 hp) at 5,200 revolutions per minute and maximum torque of 241 Nm (3800 m/min). It comes with 5-speed manual transmission and is engineered for CNG operation including high tolerance safety measures specifically associated with the CNG system. The bi-fuel Control Switch & Display provides easy switching between fuels.

The CNG cylinder is placed in a protective compartment placed in the cargo bed.

Available in Standard (single) or Smart (extended) cab form, the Vigo costs 622,000 baht (USD 19, 760) and 724,000 baht (USD 23,000) respectively, including air conditioning and VAT.

The Hilux is the second Toyota model that gets a factory CNG conversion in Thailand, after the Corolla.
