Tata Adds Indigo and Indica to CNG emax Range

Tata Motors has added to its CNG portfolio the Tata Indigo emax and Tata Indica emax. These two variants have been introduced in 6 markets across India and will now be available in Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Tripura. The new emax range is available with a bi-fuel (CNG/petrol) bi-fuel system.

The Tata Indigo and Tata Indica emax have a low carbon footprint of 0.251 g/km and 0.338 g/km, respectively, with fuel efficiency of 23.7 km/kg for the Indica and 24.6 km/kg for the Indigo.

Announcing the launch, Mr. Ankush Arora – Sr. Vice President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit (Commercial), Tata Motors Ltd., said, “CNG is gaining momentum in the Indian automobile market and we are happy to announce expansion of our CNG portfolio. The introduction of the new variants comes as an essential step that underlines our commitment to be a sustainable automotive player.”

Tata Motors showcased its emax range at the Horizonext event, held in Pune, in June 2013, with a commitment to launch its CNG range in a phased manner, in FY 14. The bi-fuel Nano emax was the first in the emax series.

Tata Indigo emax’s bi-fuel engine produces up to 65 HP @ 5000 RPM, with a CNG range of up to 230 kilometres and bi-fuel range of around 880 km. The driver switches between CNG and petrol driving modes using a push-button fuel type selector. The Indigo is priced at INR 4.99 lakhs (USD 7,930) and goes up to INR 5.27 lakhs (USD 8,390), ex-showroom Delhi, for the Indigo GLS and Indigo GLX, respectively.

The Indica emax has a CNG range of up to 230 kilometres and bi-fuel range of more than 830 km. Prices start at INR 3.99 lakhs (USD 6,340) and goes up to INR 4.26 lakhs (USD 6,780), ex-showroom Delhi, for the Tata Indica GLS and Tata Indica GLX, respectively.

The vehicles come with a warranty of up to 75,000 km or 4 years (whichever is earlier) on the new Tata Indigo and Tata Indica emax–CNG, compared to 60,000 km or 4 years (whichever is earlier) for the Tata Nano emax–CNG.
