In Hobart, the capital city of the pristine Australian state of Tasmania, the City Council has recently added five new Isuzu NPR 300 CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) powered trucks to its fleet in a bid to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Two of the trucks feature standard tipper trays and another two feature versatile three-way tipper tray bodies. All four are used as service vehicles for Council maintenance tasks in and around suburban streets, gardens and parks. The fifth vehicle, a van-bodied Isuzu, is designed to securely transport bins for document destruction of sensitive paper waste from Council and local businesses. Read more »

Sichuan Acts to Regulate NGV Development

The province of Sichuan in central China has taken steps to exercise more control over its burgeoning natural gas vehicle development with the introduction of safety management practices, effective 1st February, reports China Daily. According to the Legislative Affairs Office of Sichuan Provincial Government, the legislation clearly delineates corporate and government responsibilities and obligations, and establishes a coordinating Development and Reform Commission for professional regulation and monitoring.

ECUA Purchases 50 Natural Gas Refuse Trucks

Florida’s Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA), based in the city of Pensacola, is purchasing 50 new natural gas refuse trucks and partnering with local natural gas provider Energy Services of Pensacola (ESP) to provide fuel, reports NorthEscambia.com. ESP is to construct a fast-fill compressed natural gas (CNG) station at ECUA’s Sanitation Department depot, expected to be completed by July 2012 when the new trucks are also to be delivered. Under the terms of the agreement, ECUA will pay ESP a monthly transportation charge as well as an indexed price per diesel gallon equivalent of CNG fuel used by ECUA vehicles. Read more »

Pensacola’s Pilot Program Prepares City for NGVs

The City of Pensacola, Florida has received a new natural gas-fueled vehicle. The car, a Honda Civic GX, is the first natural gas vehicle (NGV) in Mayor Ashton Hayward’s initiative to transition the City fleet from gasoline-based vehicles to NGVs. Hayward has also called on local businesses to consider including CNG vehicles as a cleaner option for their private fleets and to partner with the City on the effort. Read more »

Leeds Council in the UK will soon have its own permanent biomethane fuel station, to be opened at Cross Green. The £150,000  (USD 240,000) station will serve the city’s two biomethane gas-powered rubbish trucks, providing fuel storage and easier refilling at the pumps. As Prices Rise, US States Support Natural Gas Vehicles

The state of Wyoming has responded to the ever increasing gasoline and diesel prices by passing a law ( HB235) directing two state agencies to begin switching their fleets to natural gas, reports the US natural gas vehicle association NGVAmerica. The law appropriates $200,000 for the Wyoming Department of Transportation and the Department of Administration and Information to retrofit or acquire vehicles in their fleets that are capable of running on natural gas. The state expects to switch 20 vehicles to natural gas. Read more »

Increased NGV-Related Legislative Activity in USA

Natural Gas Vehicles for America (NGVAmerica) say there has been a sharp increase in state NGV-related legislative activities in the US, one of the latest being the bills introduced in the state of West Virginia to accelerate the use of NGVs in the state, including tax credits for both vehicles and infrastructure, including home refueling.
