IGU Logo (full)Leaders of global energy industry associations and natural gas industry leaders have focused on reducing methane emissions by the adoption of ‘Methane Guiding Principles’. IGU, IOGP and IPIECA became Associate Signatories to the guidelines, joining signatory companies BP, Eni, ExxonMobil, Gazprom, Qatar Petroleum, Repsol, Statoil, Shell, Total, Wintershall and Woodside to encourage their application. IGU’S WGC2018 Focus on Transportation Fuel: Nine Weeks Away

WGC 2018 - LogoThe International Gas Union concluded it’s last Executive Committee meeting prior to the World Gas Conference in Washington D.C. June 25-29th, in Cairo this week.  The meeting was hosted by IGU’s Charter Member from Egypt, the Egyptian Gas Association with support from Taqa Arabia, METAS, Cheiron and Delek. IGU Forum Concludes Natural Gas Integral to Future Sustainability

IGU Logo (full)The 5th IGU Diplomatic Gas Forum in Madrid (22 November) included presentations and debate that point to natural gas’ key role in improving urban air quality and combating climate change. The conclusion drawn from this discussion:”Natural Gas to have a Fundamental Role in the Future Sustainable Energy Mix”. About 70 delegates from embassies of 30 countries and all regions attended the event. IGU Logo (full)The Paris-based International Energy Agency (IEA) has published World Energy Outlook 2017 in which the central theme is of a world in energy transition as traditional ways are upended in favour of renewables and cleaner choices through technology advancements. The International Gas Union (IGU) draws much optimism from the report which cites the “strong environmental dimension” in the case for natural gas and lauds natural gas’ “multiple roles across the energy system that no other fuel or technology can match”. It has no regard for borders and pays scant heed to diminutive policies and selfish objectives. One solution on the path to addressing this global issue is the increased use of natural gas, says IGU, which has released a new edition of case studies depicting efforts to bring about change. IGU Responds to World Energy Outlook 2016

IGU Logo (full)The International Gas Union (IGU) says one of the key findings of the just-released 2016 World Energy Outlook (WEO – 2016) published by the International Energy Agency (IEA), is a positive and welcome message for the gas sector. IGU Secretariat Relocates to Barcelona

Luis Bertrán Rafecas Assumes Position of IGU Secretary General

The International Gas Union (IGU)’s secretariat has relocated from Oslo, Norway to Barcelona, Spain, with Gas Natural Fenosa and Sedigas becoming the new Secretariat host organizations. The move follows the appointment of Mr. Luis Bertrán Rafecas to the position of Secretary General, taking over from Pål Rasmussen, effective 1st November. Read more »

IGU Discusses Barriers and Opportunities for LNG Marine Fuel

The International Gas Union (IGU)’s Utilization Committee has published a paper authored by Felix Apfel, Jr. Project Manager for Gas for Transport, GAZPROM Germania, to stimulate discussion about the increasing pressures faced by the shipping industry – both from within its own ranks and from policymakers – to become a clean form of transport. Apfel investigates where those pressures comes from and proposes measures needed to address them if the opportunities offered by natural gas as a marine fuel are to be exploited. Read more »
