15.5% CAGR increase in CNG vehicle sales in the past five years
Maruti Suzuki India Limited, India’s pioneer of factory-fitted Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) technology for passenger vehicles, achieved highest ever sales of eco-friendly CNG-powered cars in FY 2019-20. The Company sold 106,443 factory-fitted CNG vehicles across India. Inclusion of natural gas powered vehicles in its fleet was the decisive factor for Kuopio Municipality in Finland to choose Urbaser as the successful refuse collection tenderer. Urbaser had the advantage of offering its services using six Scania’s biogas trucks.

A contract for the delivery of 20 Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses was signed by representatives of Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. and the operator Connexxion providing transport services for South Holland province. Gasrec’s flagship DIRFT facility has the capacity to refuel 700 heavy goods vehicles per day.
Gasrec has recorded a five-fold increase in sales of gas across its commercial vehicle refuelling network in the first quarter of 2020, versus the same period in 2019. This record growth follows an influx of new trucks into the market running on compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquified natural gas (LNG) – with demand in March 2020 exceeding the previous peak of September 2014, at the height of the Euro-5 dual fuel era. Consumption of natural gas in transport in the Czech Republic in 2019 increased by more than 20% year-on-year to a record 91.3 million cubic meters, reports the Czech Gas Association. Currently, over 25,000 compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles run on Czech roads, for which more than 200 filling stations are already available. Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. has secured yet another significant order for environmentally friendly, CNG-fuelled articulated buses. Pursuant to the contract signed between the manufacturer and public transport operator Dopravní podnik Ostrava a.s., the Czech city of Ostrava will receive 37 state-of-the-art Solaris Urbino 18 CNG buses. Calor, a U.K. energy provider, has invested in the next generation of LNG vehicles, which offer a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions* compared to their diesel counterparts (1). Calor will be operating a number of Volvo FM LNG trucks on its national trunking operation, fuelled by its national footprint of LNG stations.
