Panda Van 0.9 TwinAir: 5-star rating

The highest rating of this year’s van environmental list has been achieved by natural gas models. Surveying organisation VCS Traffic Club Switzerland explains that as before, there are no really clean diesel vehicles in the van area, and the market is still awaiting gasoline direct injection vehicles with a particle filter.

Gas models also rank best in the van environmental list this year, reaching the highest rating of five stars. Electric vans are rated for methodological reasons in a separate list. However, if electric vehicles are powered by green electricity, they are much more environmentally friendly than petrol and diesel vehicles. However, the range of electric delivery vans with only six models remains modest.

Among the vans with the highest rating are mainly high-roof natural gas-powered combinations such as the Fiat models Panda Van 0.9 TwinAir and Fiorino 1.4i, the VW Caddy 1.4 BMT and the Opel Combo 1.4. The gas-powered Piaggio Porter 1.3 also receives five stars in the categories panel van, pickup truck and pickup truck.

There are no clean diesel vans which meet the Euro 6d TEMP standards. The Euro 6d-TEMP standard, adopted from September 1, 2017, provides for the additional measurement of real driving emissions (RDE).

Likewise, gasoline direct-injection engines with particle filters are yet to arrive. Fuel consumption has generally fallen slightly, but a marked decline can not be determined.

The van environmental list is the only environmental rating of its kind in Switzerland, taking into account the effects on the climate, health and the environment. The emission of the climate gas carbon dioxide (CO2) is the most important criterion for assessment.
