OAO Sovcomflot (SCF Group) has signed a new USD 319 million 10 year credit facility with a consortium of leading European banks with ING acting as Agent, with funds to be applied to financing two new ice-class LNG carriers SCF Melampus and SCF Mitre, which will operate on long-term contracts with the Shell Group. The new high-spec Atlanticmax Ice2 (1C) class gas carriers feature a tri-fuel engine, providing the option of LNG-powered propulsion.

The vessels will each have a cargo capacity of 170,000m³ and are equipped for operating in harsh and low temperature conditions. They join a small group of LNG Carriers with Ice Class strengthened hulls and winterization equipment to allow them to operate in harsh climatic conditions and sub zero temperatures all year round. This makes them capable of transporting LNG from any existing LNG terminal, as well as the ability to transit the Northern Sea Route (NSR) if required.

The vessels will form part of Sovcomflot’s recently established company SCF Gas Carriers Ltd., the Group’s dedicated vehicle for its expanding gas transportation business, joining the newbuild LNG-powered carriers Velikiy Novgorod and Pskov which were commissioned earlier this year.
