Sirius Shipping, based in Donsö, Sweden, has placed an order for two 7999 dwt LNG-ready oil/chemical tankers at AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in the Jiangdu Economic & Development Zone, Jiangsu Province, China, with delivery planned for 2018. The vessels will be rated ICE class 1A and will be equipped with the latest technology to comply current and future regulations.
“The development of the EVOlution series began in 2012 with the focus on fuel economy. With the knowledge built up in Sirius since then, we are now confident and ready to order two units,” says Jonas Backman, MD.
The design is developed in cooperation with FKAB Marine Design which has offices in both Sweden and China. It is based on a proven hull design and fuel consumption. Sirius says that their combined knowledge and experience will deliver an optimized vessel that will be the most efficient vessel in its segment.
LNG Ready: The LOA 119.9 m vessel is designed with a MAN B&W 6S35 ME-B 9.5 – 4500 kW two stroke main engine that is capable of conversion to run on LNG. The deck strength and stability are designed so that two LNG tanks can be mounted on deck.
