The introduced decree aims to reduce pollution in urban areas, reduce gasoline and diesel consumption and promote new technologies in the field.

The law calls for 30 percent of the total number of vehicles purchased each year to be ‘green’. It applies to “local public authorities, autonomous administrations and the companies under the subordination of the administrative-territorial units”. The ruling also applies to private equity firms and taxi fleets.

The annual purchases of vehicles made by public authorities for the operation of their own fleet must contain at least 20% of cars powered by green technologies.
