Philippine Government Promotes Alt-fuel Uptake

| Philippines, Tuguegarao City

The Philippine Government’s Department of Energy (DOE), in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), has been conducting series of fora nationwide to increase public awareness and appreciation of the importance of cleaner alternative energy fuels and new energy technologies, including natural gas.

The fora have been led by energy experts and specialists from the Alternative Fuels and Energy Technology Division (AFETD) of the DOE-Central Office. Participants include local transport groups, local government units, regional line agencies, media practitioners and the academe. The aim is to make participants aware of the various incentives derived from development and utilization of the natural gas industry in the country and to encourage the participation of the public and the private sector in these efforts.

Director Purita Licas of PIA is hopeful the advocacy effort will increase the level of awareness of the transport groups, local officials and stakeholders regarding their roles and responsibilities on the various alternative fuels and energy technologies.

Licas urged both public and private sectors to use or apply these new technologies and develop market and supply infrastructure to help the environment and more importantly lessen dependency on imported oil.
