A meeting of the Steering Committee for the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto CNG Bus Project, held under the chairmanship of Federal Secretary Environment Javed Malik in Pakistan, heard different proposals and strategies put forward to streamline the project this week. The project is considered to be an important contribution toward tackling the country’s worsening transport and environment problem. Despite the reiterated commitment toward carrying out the project, which will see 8,000 CNG buses operated in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Sukkhar and Gujranwala, the government press release did not specify how the project was going to progress.
