
Maruti Suzuki SX4
Marking the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5th in Mumbai, city gas distributor Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) partnered with Maruti Suzuki Ltd., one of India’s leading auto manufacturers, to replace its entire fleet of staff vehicles with the compressed natural gas (CNG) versions of the SX4 and Wagon R. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. V.C. Chittoda, Managing Director, MGL said, “Today, it gives me immense pleasure and pride that country’s leading automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki Ltd., has shared our vision of making Mumbai into a much more eco-friendly city to live in. We are looking forward to carry on this association with them for years to come which will go a long way in transforming Mumbai in to a “greener city”.”
The induction of CNG cars was formally done at the hands of Mr. V.C. Chittoda, Managing Director – MGL, in presence of Mr. S.N. Burman, General Manager and Commercial Business Head – Maruti Suzuki, Mr. Allan Perrin, Technical Director – MGL and other senior officials of MGL and Maruti Suzuki.
MGL says it has made constant efforts to spread the message of using CNG and that, with over 2 lakh (200,000) CNG vehicles in and around Mumbai, the city has surely benefited with this alternative, safer and economical fuel option.
According to MGL, Mumbai’s entire fleet of taxis, auto rickshaws, and majority of BEST buses, private cars and even heavy motor vehicles run on CNG supplied by MGL through a network of 150 CNG filling stations having about 750 dispensing points. Use of CNG today is reducing vehicular emissions by about 1000 tonnes per day making a significant improvement in [the] city’s environment.
