Tbilisi Transport Company, 100% owned by Tbilisi City Hall in Georgia’s capital city, has followed the signing of an agreement with MAN Truck and Bus in July this year for the supply of 143 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, the first MAN buses in the country, with the introduction of the first natural gas buses into its fleet. Buses will be supplied by MAN in batches.
All buses have a 310 hp (228 kW) modern gas engine which meets the Euro 6 emission standard. Passenger safety features include the electronic brake system (EBS) with ABS (anti-lock braking system) and ASR (traction control), as well as the ESP electronic stability programme. Inside, the vehicle has seating for 31 passengers and standing room for 54.
The ancient streets and buildings of Tbilisi, founded in the 5th Century and located on the crossroads of Europe and Asia, will benefit from the reduction of emitted gases and particulate matter as well as lower engine noise, a feature of all natural gas buses.
