Indian automotive manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra has introduced a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) variant as an option for the Mahindra Jeeto, a light commercial vehicle. The Jeeto, available with CNG as the X7-16 variant, is 3,581 mm long, 1,485 mm wide and has a wheelbase of 2,500 mm.
It weighs 1,485 kg (GVW) and can carry 900 kgs payload, described by the manufacturer as best-in-class.
As specified on the company website, the CNG Jeeto is equipped with a 625cc engine that produces 11.9 kW (16 hp) @ 3600 rpm and 38 Nm of torque at 1200 – 2200 rpm, and a 4-speed manual synchromesh gearbox. The engine conforms to Bharat Stage emission standard BS-IV, similar to Euro 6.
In India, the different emissions norms are brought into force in accordance with the timeline and standards set up by the Central Pollution Control Board which comes under the Ministry of Environment and Forests and Climate Change.
The Jeeto comes with a warranty of 2 years or 40,000 km (whichever is earlier). It has a CNG fuel tank of 45 litre capacity and delivers 33.2 kilometers per kilogram which, depending on payload, will provide a range of almost 200 kms.
First launched as a petrol version in June 2015, the Jeeto is said to be the first ever product in its category with a modular range of 8 mini-trucks to cater to the varied needs of the sub 1 tonne load segment customers. Available in S, L & X series, it caters to the 3 wheeler, micro-truck and mini-truck customers.
The CNG variant is only offered as an X7, the top of the range, and is priced ex-showroom at INR 3.49 lakh (USD 5,200)
