Mack Defense has been awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). As part of the contract, Mack Defense will supply Mack® Pinnacle™, Mack Granite® and Mack TerraPro® models from now until the initial contract ends Oct. 31, 2015. The natural gas Pinnacle is offered in a 4×2 and 6×4 day cab on this contract.
The GSA contract also includes natural gas-powered vehicles from Mack. Mack offers the natural gas-powered Pinnacle highway model, which runs on either compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG). All vehicles supplied under this contract will be CNG-powered, however LNG has been discussed as a possibility for future contracts.
A Mack Defense spokesperson told NGV Global News this is believed to be the first time that natural gas vehicles have been offered by GSA.
The CNG tanks are 45 gallon DGE (Diesel Gallon Equivalent), single or dual. There is also an option for 160 gallon DGE capacity. Trucks fueled by natural gas meet or exceed the most recent US emissions standards set by the EPA.
GSA has the option to extend the contract for an additional year through Oct. 31, 2016.
“We look forward to working with the GSA to fulfill our contract with natural gas-powered and diesel-powered Mack vehicles,” said Ryan Werling, president of Mack Defense. “Mack is known for its products, all of which are built in the U.S.A., and we are excited to offer natural gas-powered solutions for our government customers looking for alternative-fuel vehicles. We are pleased that Mack is the only OEM under the contract to offer heavy-duty natural gas vehicles.”
