Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) has awarded Minnesota-based New Flyer Industries (NFI) a contract for up to 300 Xcelsior® compressed natural gas (CNG), 60-foot heavy-duty transit buses. The contract is for 65 firm orders and options to purchase an additional 235 buses.
New Flyer buses are designed for a 350 – 400 mile range and have 20-year certified CNG tanks installed. The 60-foot Xcelsior CNG has capacity for 61 sitting and 62 standing passengers. It is powered by a Cummins Westport ISL-G 280 engine. New Flyer says it will move to the ISL-G NZ 320 engine in 2018.
