Johan Kristoffersson is STCC Champion for 2012
The 2012 Swedish Touring Car Championship has been hotly contested all year, with two teams, each racing two biomethane-powered VW Scirocco, helping to create a suspense filled finish. After race seven of an eight-race season Volkswagen Team Biogas (Team biogas.se) driver Johan Kristoffersson needed two wins from the final two races at Solvalla to take out the championship. Driver skill, teamwork, VW design and biomethane-generated power (280 Nm, 310 hp) triumphed on the day.
In the first of the Solvalla races, Kristoffersson lead from start to finish and crossed the line ahead of Johan Stureson and Patrik Olsson, provided a Scirocco 1-2-3 finish, with Jordi Gené in sixth place. That left Kristoffersson seven points behind championship leader Rickard Rydell (Chevrolet).

Kristoffersson was never headed in Race 1
Rydell jumped to the lead at the start of Race 2 but was soon overtaken by Kristoffersson and Stureson who delivered a Scirocco 1-2 finish, with Olsson and Gené taking out fifth and sixth respectively. The championship outcome – 4 places in the top 10 for VW Scirocco drivers and Kristoffersson winning the championship by just 6 points:
1st: Johan Kristoffersson (Volkswagen Team Biogas), VW Scirocco – 264 points
4th: Patrik Olsson (IPS Team Biogas), VW Scirocco – 183 points
6th: Johan Stureson (IPS Team Biogas), VW Scirocco – 167 points
7th: Jordi Gené (Volkswagen Team Biogas), VW Scirocco – 147 points
“Absolutely amazing!” shouted the 23-year-old from Arvika after the successful and dramatic final day, which attracted 18,600 spectators to Solvalla.
Volkswagen Team Biogas took out second place on the Team Championship table and IPS Team Biogas was third.
