Bolivia’s natural gas vehicle fleet has grown with the acquisition of buses from Chinese manufacturer Xiamen King Long United Automotive Industry Company, Ltd (King Long). 61 ‘Puma Katari’ have been ordered by the city of El Alto and 200 14-seater compressed natural gas (CNG) minibuses will be delivered to the neighbouring city of La Paz, Bolivia’s capital city.

Delivery has been facilitated by Óscar Farell, Operations Manager at Fabros Motors, King Long’s in-country agent.

The minibuses are reported by la Razón to be the largest of their type operating in La Paz. They vehicles have bi-fuel engines, able to operate on CNG and switch to gasoline when necessary.

Farell said four unions were looking forward to the additional capacity offered by the minibuses, to service the high demand for public transportation in La Paz. Approximately 70% of the population reportedly commute by public transport.
