Kenworth T680 sleeper with Cummins Westport ISX12 G engine
The Kenworth T680, manufactured by Kenworth Truck Company, is now available for order with a natural gas powered engine. The Kenworth T680 in day cab, 52-inch mid-roof sleeper and 76-inch sleeper configurations now can be specified with the factory-installed Cummins Westport ISX12 G natural gas engine rated up to 400 hp and 1,450 lb-ft of torque.
The ISX12 G requires a single fuel source and can run on either CNG (compressed natural gas) or LNG (liquefied natural gas). The engine uses a maintenance-free, three-way catalyst and does not require a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) tank, diesel particulate filter (DPF) or selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology. Kenworth works with such companies as Agility Fuel Systems, Trilogy Engineered Solutions, and McNeilus to provide natural gas tanks and fueling systems.
“The new, natural-gas powered Kenworth T680 especially appeals to truck fleets and operators interested in low cost of operation opportunities from the effective combination of the T680’s fuel-saving aerodynamics and cost-efficient natural gas fuel,” said Andy Douglas, Kenworth national sales manager for specialty markets.
Kenworth displayed a T680 52-inch sleeper equipped with the Cummins Westport ISX12 G engine powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) at the co-located NGV Global 2014 — ACT Expo 2014 event in Long Beach, in May.
Kenworth also offers the ISX12 G in the Kenworth T660 and the Kenworth T800 short hood with a 116.5-inch BBC.
