The Colombian subsidiaries of Korean vehicle manufacturer Hyundai and Spanish energy company Gas Natural Fenosa have reached an agreement to sell Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered taxis with factory warranty and aftermarket support in Colombia’s capital city of Bogotá.
The Hyundai i10 CityTaxi Plus, included within this agreement, is being made available from Hyundai Automotive Colombia with the same features as the gasoline model and at the same price but will significantly reduce pollution and carbon monoxide compared to conventional-fuel motors.
It is expected that operators will be able to achieve a fuel cost saving in excess of 50% based on current prices while also reducing maintenance costs, reports Diario SUR Digital. While increasing sales for Hyundai the city will benefit from reduced pollution.
More than 3,000 vehicles were converted to natural gas operation in the first quarter of 2013, in Bogotá and the Departments of Boyacá, Cundinamarca and Santander.
