GAZ Group Develops CNG Version of Intercity Bus

| Russia

GAZ Group medium-class KAVZ-4238-02Russian automotive manufacturer GAZ Group has developed a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered version of it’s medium-sized intercity bus model KAVZ-4238. Produced at GAZ Group’s Kurgan Bus Plant, the 10 metre bus is designed for suburban and long-distance routes. The bus is equipped with a Cummins gas engine certified to Euro V environmental standard and ZF transmission. Natural gas is stored in five cylinders of 123 liters, which enables a range of 400 km.

The total passenger capacity of the bus is 44 people, including 35-39 seats depending on the version. The bus is designed for reduced environmental impact while taking advantage of the low cost of CNG – a win-win for city transportation providers. The KAVZ-4238 is planned to certify by the end of this year.

GAZ Group, part of Basic Element (one of Russia’s largest diversified industrial groups) via Russian Machines Corporation, recently started serial production of the new-generation GAZelle light commercial bi-fuel vehicle. GAZ Group will also deliver to the Sochi-2014 Olympic Games new Cruise GOLAZ natural gas buses built on Scania chassis according to the Euro V standard.
