FPT Industrial, a company of FIAT Industrial dedicated to the design, production and sale of powertrains, has recently signed a supply agreement with Beiqi Foton Motor Co. Ltd and China Youthman Automotive Group for one hundred and eighty Cursor 8 CNG engines to power their National V (equivalent of Euro V in Europe) buses manufactured for the Beijing Public Transportation Company (BPTC).
BPTC, at the forefront of the domestic vehicle environmental requirements, is the first public transportation company in China to adopt National V standards, according to the FPT press release. “The engines will make a great contribution to environmental protection and emission reduction in Beijing”, said a BPTC official, adding that “the successful and longstanding cooperation between FPT Industrial and BPTC has proven not only the expertise of an international company like FPT, but also the excellent quality of its products.”
The buses used by BPTC will be powered by the efficient and environmental friendly Cursor 8 CNG. The six-cylinder, 7.8 litre engine, with power of 213 kW and maximum torque of 1300 Nm, adopts a multi-injection fuel system and three-way catalytic after-treatment device, to be in line with European EEV (Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle) emission standards, which is higher than the National V emission standard.
The engines will be powering the buses used on the major routes of Beijing, including the No. 1 bus line, running on Chang’an Boulevard and passing Tiananmen Square.
So far, all the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit System) of the BPTC, featuring among others, 18-meter long articulated buses and 12-meter double-decker buses, are powered by FPT Industrial engines. FPT Industrial delivered more than 4,000 high emission standard Diesel and CNG engines to power Beijing’s public transport system during and after the games.
