Evergas, a Danish shipping company specializing in seaborne transportation of petrochemical gases and natural gas liquids, has named the seventh of eight dual-fuel newbuilds it is incorporating into its fleet. Evergas’ latest addition, the 7th ‘dragon class’ 27.500 cbm multigas LNG carrier, was successfully named JS INEOS INDEPENDENCE on the 19th of April, at Sunoco’s terminal in Marcus Hook by Philadelphia.
In January 2013, Evergas announced it had secured shipping agreements of up to 15 years with INEOS for the worlds’ first transatlantic shipments of ethane with commencement in 2015. Six multigas newbuilds were ordered to bring ethane from US shale gas to INEOS’ manufacturing sites in Grangemouth, Scotland and Rafnes, Norway. In 2014 agreement was reached between INEOS and Evergas to expand its newbuilding series to eight units.
The dual-fuelled vessels, fitted with Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines and able to operate using ethane, methane, fuel oil and diesel, are built to match the highest environmental and efficiency performance levels, securing ultra-low emissions and reduced transportation cost.
Since December last year, the company has named four vessels including JS INOES INDEPENDENCE: JS INEOS INTUITION (28th March), JS INEOS INSPIRATION (28th January) and JS INEOS INNOVATION (9th January).
