DART Approves Purchase of 452 Natural Gas Buses

Regional transit authority Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), which services Dallas and 12 surrounding cities, has agreed that its next fleet of buses will be powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). The new fleet of 452 buses, approved unanimously by the management panel this week, should begin service in 2013 at a cost of USD217 million. Dallas News reports that the growing disparity between natural gas and diesel fuel cost and the proven availability of natural gas as a domestic fuel, were significant factors in the decision-making process.
